In the summer of 1976, when the Town of Haskell, Oklahoma Bicentennial Murial was in the planning stages, Mrs.
Shirley Rose Quinn approached a high school art student to help the Bicentennial Committee transfer the design
and paint the original mural on City Hall. That art student was 71-year old Carole Brown. The official representative
from the Pa-A-Linn Club to the Bicentennial Committee was past club member Annette Wells, who was then
elected Chairman.
Some 20 years later in 1996, Carole Brown, then a degreed Graphic Designer, past president of the Pa-A-Linn
Club, Annette Wells and current Club Member, Eleanor Bennett came together to research and design the official
40th anniversary Pa-A-Linn Club Seal.
The seal incorporates as its center the mural artwork, which is one of Haskell's most prominent landmarks. The
mural artwork includes references to the Creek Nation seal, the crossed flags of the United States and France to
signify LaHarp's Council, the state bird; a scissor tail flycatcher, a wagon wheel to show the pioneer influence and a
large raccoon representing "Sawokla" the original creek name of the Native American Indian village settlement
which later grew to become the Town of Haskell.
The seal's designer, Carole Brown is a 5th generation Haskell native, and a graduate of Haskell High School who
holds a Master's Degree in Communications. She won three "International Gold Awards" for artwork and
publication design from the Speciality Advertising Association International for her work in the custom watch field.
Brown has designed commemorative watches for baseball's World Series, football's Super Bowl and the
Republican National Committee's award to President Ronald Regan when he left office. Personalities Cher,
Natalie Cole and Danny DeVito also own original watches designed by Brown.

The GFWC-OK-Pa-A-Linn Club, is comprised of 20 members who reside in the
Haskell community and its surrounding area. The Club meets September through
May on the first Monday of each month.
Mrs. Charles Procter, State Chairman of Junior Clubs and Mrs. Bowdre Sims, a member of GFWC Haskell Study
Club and local sponsor, met with a group of ten young women on October 23, 1957, to form a new Junior Club and
write a Constitution and By-laws. The name chosen for the new Junior Club was Pa-A-Linn, meaning "ten" in the
Creek Indian Language. The club motto, "act well thy part, therein all honor lies" and chose the colors white and
red. The flower the "red" rose is the club flower. The newly organized Junior Club was federated at the Sixth District
Convention in Haskell on October 25, 1957.
